SENIOR LIVING Projects

THE CASCADES VERDAE

The Cascades Verdae Website
Greenville, SC
2005-2009

The Cascades Verdae is a continuing care retirement community with 166 independent living apartments and 43 cottages, as well as a healthcare center providing 48 assisted living, 44 nursing care, and 24 memory care residences, all in private rooms. To give the residents a heightened sense of home, the buildings are designed in a red-brick Georgian style appropriate to the region, with attention to classical proportions and details that offer the residents ample room.

Even in a community such as this one, isolation can be a problem. To facilitate social activity, the independent living apartment buildings are organized around a central lawn with the clubhouse at its terminus. This 53,000 SF clubhouse is the gathering place for residents, offering multiple activities: various dining venues, meeting spaces, a ballroom, a cinema, and a Wellness Center with an exercise pool, fitness equipment, aerobics rooms, and other amenities. The cottages, meanwhile, are located in neighborhoods around the perimeter, with easy access to garages. As residents require more care, they can transition easily into the healthcare center. The result is an excellent example of a continuing care retirement community designed to accommodate the needs of all residents.
