WOODLANDS COTTAGES
2006
As many seniors enter retirement communities, they miss the camaraderie and friendliness of their longtime neighborhoods. The goal of the Woodlands Cottages, which are single family, Independent-Living homes, was to provide a very pedestrian-friendly neighborhood within the naturally wooded surroundings of Penick Village. This was accomplished in part by giving each cottage a porch in the front, allowing the residents to engage in the southern custom of going from porch to porch, visiting with neighbors as they sit and enjoy a cool spring day or balmy summer evening.
