HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE

ReStore Website
Winston-Salem, NC
2012 – 2014

The ReStore is a 22,000 square foot retail store where Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County sells donated furniture, art, electronics and household furnishings to support their efforts. With their lease expiring on their current unairconditioned, hard to find location, Habitat contracted with Steele Group to create a new, vibrant store that would attract more business.

The playful ornamentation of the building emphasizes the many relationships that combine to make Habitat a significant part of our community while the simple shape and construction make the structure economical to build and operate. In keeping with the ReStore mission, significant elements from the existing facility were repurposed in the new design while the majority of finish materials were either donated or selected from existing store inventory.

Steele Group Architects contracted directly with Habitat for the site due diligence and schematic building design phases of the project. As the project progressed into the design development and construction administration phases, we switched to a design build delivery method to conserve client costs.
